Q.1      What is the composition of air?

Ans     Air is a mixture of nitrogen (78%), oxygen (21%), carbon dioxide, water vapour and a few other gases like                argon etc. Some dust particles may also be present in it.

Q.2      Which gas in the atmosphere is essential for respiration?

Ans     Oxygen is essential for respiration.

Q.3      How will you prove that air supports burning?

Ans     Fix a candle in the middle of water container. Now, fill the container with some water. Light the candle                and then cover it with an inverted glass. The candle continues to burn till the complete consumption of                oxygen. This shows that air supports burning.

Q.4      How will you show that air is dissolved in water?

Q.5      Why does a lump of cotton wool shrink in water?

Q.6      The layer of air around the earth is known as ___________.

Q.7      The component of air used by green plants to make their food is ___________.

Q.8      List five activities that are possible due to the presence of air.

Q.9      How do plants and animals help each other in the exchange of gases in the atmosphere?

Ans     Plants use carbon dioxide for making their food by photosynthesis and release oxygen into the                                atmosphere. On the other hand animals inhale oxygen and release carbon dioxide during respiration.                  Thus, plants and animals help each other in the exchange of gases in the atmosphere.
